Case Study: Commercial Event Amplification

The first Witholding Tax Congress was held in London on 14-15th October 2009.
TConsult worked with the event organisers, Osney Media, to produce a unique Online Conference Space which delivered the event to a global remote audience. Each online delegate paid £995 to access the collection of materials, which included:
Live Video Streaming
Online delegates were able to watch a live video stream from the event via the web, and catch up with any sessions they may have missed by viewing the recordings at a later point. The video stream was accompanied by an interactive tool displaying the speakers slides, allowing online delegates to navigate through the slides, zoom in where necessary and search the slides for key terms.
Live Interaction
Physical delegates can put their hands up to ask questions, so we felt that online delegates should have the same opportunity. A special online question form enabled online delegates to submit their question direct to the conference chairman, who could then pose it to the speaker on their behalf at the appropriate time.
Analysis & Views
Our live bloggers summarised each of the talks as they were presented, producing a live commentary on Twitter and an analytical blog post capturing the main argument of the speaker. They also conducted video interviews with speakers, sponsors and delegates to record their views.
Resources
The conference delegate pack, speaker bios, sponsor messages and all of the presenters’ slides were made available to online delegates, just as to physical delegates.
After The Event
After the live event was completed, all of the materials were converted into an archive. Online delegates were given access to the online conference space for 10 days after the event, to catch up on any sessions they may have missed. However, many of the physical delegates expressed a sense of “information overload”, whilst other potential delegates came to the online event too late to participate live, but still wanted to access the materials. We therefore developed two after-event revenue streams: one for physical delegates, who were granted a significantly reduced rate, and one for non-delegates who wished to access the archive. This added longevity to the income from the event and increased exposure for the event sponsors.
