FASTER Directive

Understand. Prepare. Participate.

Plan ahead and engage

The EU FASTER Directive is set to transform how financial institutions across the European Union handle cross-border withholding tax procedures. Although the Directive does not come into effect until 2030, now is the time for institutions to understand its implications, plan ahead, and engage with the evolving regulatory process.

At TConsult, we help financial institutions stay ahead of change. We can help clarify the emerging requirements, identify the operational impacts and support constructive participation in the EU’s consultation and feedback process.

What is the EU FASTER Directive?

The FASTER Directive aims to simplify and harmonise the relief-at-source and refund procedures for cross-border dividend and interest payments within the EU.

Its key objectives include:

  • Reducing administrative burdens and delays in withholding tax reclaim processes
  • Encouraging consistency in documentation, digital reporting and investor identification across member states
  • Supporting investor protection and reducing the risk of fraud through standardised reporting and information-sharing mechanisms

When implemented, FASTER will significantly affect financial intermediaries, withholding agents, and investors operating across EU borders.
